Designing a Holiday Experience at the Montgomery Zoo
When the Montgomery Zoo envisioned expanding their Christmas lights festival, they reached out to Jubilee Decor to bring the idea to life. From the beginning, this wasn’t just about adding lights—it was about creating a special event that would bring the community together, build new traditions, and turn the zoo into a magical destination during the holiday season.
Planning began months in advance. Our team walked the zoo grounds alongside the event team, mapping out key areas, listening to their goals, and designing a layout that was festive, safe, and engaging. We crafted a completely custom lighting experience that would surprise and delight guests at every turn.
Design concepts included:
- A new Christmas Tree Village near the Mann Wildlife Learning Museum
- Themed zones like Frosty Frontier and Safari to Santa with lighted sculptures
- Walkthrough tunnels and glowing archways to welcome guests
- Thoughtfully placed lighting for the train ride, zoo exhibits, and family gathering areas
Each element was chosen to highlight the beauty of the zoo at night while making the experience immersive, joyful, and community-centered.

The Zoo Transformed into a Holiday Wonderland
When the gates opened in early December, the Montgomery Zoo was completely transformed. Trees glowed, paths shimmered, and families entered a space that felt like it had leapt from the pages of a holiday storybook. Seeing the plan come to life was one of the most rewarding parts of the project.
The train ride became a moving tour through twinkling scenes of animals, winter landscapes, and themed displays like Frosty Frontier. Visitors of all ages delighted in the glowing sculptures and interactive walkways.
Children gathered around Santa Claus at the Mann Wildlife Learning Museum, while parents snapped pictures in the Christmas Tree Village. At the Overlook Pavilion, local school groups and performers shared carols and holiday tunes as the night sky lit up around them.
Montgomery families came together in ways that reminded us why we do what we do. From groups of teens in matching pajamas to toddlers dancing to the lights, the spirit of holiday cheer was everywhere.

A Celebration of Community and Tradition
Once the lights dimmed on December 31, what remained was more than just decorations—it was the memory of joy, togetherness, and community.
Our collaboration with the Montgomery Zoo helped build something lasting. The feedback from attendees, local press, and the zoo itself confirmed that the event wasn’t just beautiful—it was meaningful (see more of the Montgomery Zoo here). It encouraged families to slow down, make memories, and connect in a space they already loved in a brand-new way.
